1. Preparation & Staging (The "Fast-Load" Strategy)
- Create a Floor Plan: Label rooms clearly and attach a furniture layout to each entrance. This prevents the crew from asking "Where does this go?" and keeps them moving at top speed.
- Centralize Your Staging: Clear all items out of attics, crawl spaces, and exterior sheds, and place them in a centralized staging area near the door.
- Keep Passageways Clear: Ensure all hallways and entryways are free of debris to allow for efficient, safe movement.
- Winter Weather Prep: If moving in Northeast Ohio, ensure all walkways, driveways, and stairs are shoveled, salted, or plowed before our crew arrives to avoid safety delays.
2. Smart Packing & Organization
- Consolidate Small Items: Pack smaller, light cartons into large ones to minimize the number of individual pieces we handle. (Visit our website for our Free Packing Guide).
- The "Drawer" Rule: Remove contents from desks, end tables, and night tables.
- Pro Tip: You can leave soft clothing/linens in dresser drawers, but consult your estimator first.
- Filing Cabinets: 2-drawer cabinets can remain full; however, 4-drawer or lateral cabinets must be emptied for safety and weight management.
- Hardware Security: Place all small hardware, shelf clips, and extension cords in labeled, sealed plastic bags. Tape these bags directly to the corresponding furniture.
3.Electronics & Specialized Care
- Tech Documentation: Take a photo of the back of your electronics before disconnecting. Label your cables and outlets to ensure a "plug-and-play" setup at your new location.
- Disconnecting: We suggest you disconnect your own audio/video systems, computers, and consoles.
- Third-Party Services: For appliances like washers, dryers, ice makers, hot tubs, or pianos, consult your Move Coordinator. Andrews can recommend qualified third-party technicians to ensure these items are serviced properly.
4. Safety & Prohibited Items
- Hazardous Materials: We cannot transport flammable liquids, acids, poisons, yard chemicals, or propane tanks. Dispose of these locally before moving day to avoid dangerous delays.
- Clear the Path: If you anticipate clearance issues (narrow turns or doorways), please remove obstacles in advance.
- Communication is Key: If your inventory has changed since your original estimate, advise us in advance. Surprise additions lead to surprise costs; early communication ensures accurate scheduling.
